Dance
Sakuntala has been gracing stages most of her life as both a dancer and a musician. As a child, she studied ballet and jazz dance, alongside her classical piano training.
During her college years at California Institute of the Arts, she began training in Bharata Natyam (the classical dance of Tamil Nadu, South India), and after college, started heavy training in Bharata Natyam and nattuvangam (rhythmic syllables) at the Om Linga Performing Art Center under Easwer Ganesh.
She later pursued bellydance studies with the greats of Southern California: Zahra Zuhair, Princess Farhana, Aubre Hill, Nasila Ayah, Aziza Sa'id, Heather Shoopman, and many more from within the USA and abroad. She also traveled to Egypt to further her studies, and is now versed in a variety of styles ranging from Oriental Egyptian and American cabaret to Tribal and Indian fusion bellydance.
In 2010, she was a dancer and one of the choreographers and composers for Zahra Zuhair's dance theatre piece, "Journey In Search of the Divine".
Today Sakuntala can be found teaching dance and/or yoga workshops and giving dance and music performances around Southern California and beyond.
